Yount, Joseph

Buckeye

Company B 71st OVI

On Saturday we attended the funeral of an old friend and comrade, Joseph Yung, of Laura. Comrade Yount was born Aug. 21, 1829, died Aug. 18, 1897, aged 68 years, liking three days. We have known comrade Yount for many years and always looked upon him as a good man. On the 25th day of Oct., 1861, he enlisted in the cause of his country and did good service with Company B of the 71st O.V.I. until February 1865 when he was discharged at Cincinnati of Surgeon’s certificate of disability. Funeral from the Christian church at Laura, of which he was a member and had been for many years. Funeral was conducted by Rev. Enos Pemberton, assisted by Rev. Joseph Pemberton and daughter and Rev. Issac Waymire, after which all that was mortal was laid to rest in Pleasant Hill cemetery by Duncan Post G.A.R. of West Milton, assisted by members of the Post here and elsewhere. It is estimated that about one hundred of the “boys” are falling each day, how soon, on, how soon it will be our turn bas as one by one we fall let us close up the ranks and stand together as long as there are any of us to stand.
