Just which one is it that you are looking for?
Stupid question? Not at all!

THE ONLY MIAMI SERVED BY THIS WEB SITE
IS
Miami COUNTY, Ohio

You would not believe just how many queries are received here in Miami COUNTY, Ohio from persons looking for some ancestor who was married in Miamisburg or Miami TOWNSHIP, etc. Frankly, neither of those are in Miami COUNTY, Ohio. Miami is a very common name in southwest Ohio because of the Miami INDIANS who once inhabited the area.

REMEMBER, THE ONLY MIAMI SERVED BY THIS WEB SITE
IS
Miami COUNTY, Ohio

And guess what, Miami COUNTY, Ohio is partly located between the two Miami RIVERS. Several miles southeast of Miami COUNTY, Ohio is The Little Miami RIVER. It does not make contact with Miami COUNTY Ohio. And then there is The Great Miami RIVER (two separate rivers) whose waters flow from north to south right through Miami COUNTY. Just because a family settled on the Miami RIVER does not mean that they settled in on near Miami COUNTY Ohio. The Great Miami RIVER flows through several Ohio counties, including Miami COUNTY !

There is a Miami VALLEY Genealogy Index that you can link to from the Miami COUNTY Genealogical Researchers web site. It is another (and separate) project of The Computerized Heritage Association . Miami COUNTY, Ohio is in Ohio's Miami VALLEY but then so are fifteen other counties of western Ohio. The Miami VALLEY is the drainage area that feeds the two Miami RIVERS as they flow southward toward the Ohio River. All of the counties that have tributaries feeding the two Miami RIVERS are considered to be a part of the Miami VALLEY. The mouth of the Great Miami RIVER empties into the Ohio River at the exact spot where the border line between Ohio and Indiana starts its northern trek. That place is west of Cincinnati. The Little Miami RIVER flows into the Ohio River east (upstream) of Cincinnati.

Another place name that sometimes leads researchers astray is the City of *Piqua* in Miami COUNTY Ohio. Sometimes researchers look in Miami COUNTY 's Piqua, Ohio for their ancestors who lived in *Pickaway* County, Ohio. Both sound very much alike when pronounced. Pickaway County is the third county east-south-east of Miami COUNTY, Ohio and, in early times, there was very little interface between the two locations as far as early population/families were concerned.
