    WILLIAM DENHAM SNYDER
    from a 1919 obituary

    William D. Snyder, son of John H. and Catherine Snyder, was born April 26, 1846. Departed this life just as the sun light was chasing away the shadows of night on the morning of August 14, 1919, aged 73 years, 3 months and 19 days.

    He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Rodenheber, February 14, 1867. To this union were born 11 children, six sons and five daughters. Four sons and one daughter preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, two sons, Ward and Warren, four daughters, Mrs. Susie Garst, Mrs. Lillie Paxson, Mrs. Louisa Wolfe and Mrs. Bertha Niswander, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Wahmhoff of this city, and Mrs. Elizabeth Ingle, of Dayton. Thirty grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

    On May 2, 1864, at the age of 18, he answered his country's call, enlisting in Company E, 147th Regiment, in which he served his country as a true soldier until he was discharged September 20, 1864. He was a member of Alexander-Mitchel Post, G.A.R.

    At the age of 13 years he was converted and joined the Christian Church. Later he transferred his membership to the United Brethren church. He lived a quiet, Christian life. He attended church regularly until his health failed. he loved to mingle with God's people and died a firm believer in the promises of Jesus Christ. He was a true, loving husband and one of the best of fathers.
