C. F. MEDARIS, farmer; P.O. Conover; was born in Shelby Co., Ohio, Feb. 20, 1851, and is a son of Washington Medaris, who was born in South Carolina in the year 1796; his boyhood days were spent on the farm, receiving only a limited education; at the age of 14 years, he, with his parents, emigrated West, locating in Batavia, Clermont Co., Ohio; at 22 he engaged in blacksmithing, which he continued working at during life; in 1833, he removed to Shelby Co. purchasing a farm of 80 acres in Perry Township, where he now resides, at the advanced age of 84. Near 1821, he married Elizabeth Psalter, who was a native of Clermont Co., Ohio, and died in Shelby Co., about 1840 or 1841. He married, for his second wife, Matilda A. McDavitt, of Miami Co. Mr. Medaris was raised on the farm, and received an ordinary education; he came to this county in December, 1868, where he has since resided. Jan. 23, 1875, his nuptials with Miss America H. Harcourt were celebrated; she was born on the farm where she now resides; they have on child - Perry H., born Feb. 15, 1876. Mrs. Medaris is a daughter of Francis A. and Martha S. (McDavitt) Harcourt; Francis A. is a native of England, and immigrated to America about the middle of the nineteenth century; Mrs. Harcourt was born in Franklin Co., Ohio, in 1825, and immigrated to Miami Co., about 1832, where she has since resided.
