    M. CREW

    M. Crew, farmer and merchant; P.O. West Milton; born in West Milton in 1831; is a son of Dr. Benjamin Crew, who was born in Columbiana Co., Ohio, in 1799, and departed this life in West Milton in 1833; his mother was born in 1808. On Aug. 6, 1827, she was married to Benjamin Crew; two children were the results of their union - Casper and our subject. She was afterward married to John Coate, by whom she had four children, two living, Robert and Benjamin,and two dying in infancy. Our subject's boyhood w as passed in West Milton, and at the age of 7 years, he removed to the farm; at the age of 20 years, he began life for himself, and followed farming till 1853, when he entered mercantile life and for five years carried on a general store, after which, he returned to the farm where he has since resided. In 1852, he was married to Susan Syler, by whom he has had four children, three living - Angeline, Harvey and Emma; Laura, deceased. Mrs. Crew is a daughter of David and Eliza Syler, who were among the early settlers. Mr. Crew owns 80 acres of land, which is all in a good state of cultivation and well improved. His daughter, Angelina, is one of the prominent and successful educators of the county, having taught for several years. In the spring of 1880, he, in partnership with Oliver Hahn, embarked in the mercantile business in West Milton; they carry an elegant stock in their line, consisting of everything usually found in a first-class retail house. Mrs. Crew was born in this county in 1833. He and his estimable wife are members of the Christian Church, with which they have connected twenty-one years, and are exemplary Christian people.
