Nov, 6, 1834

Mr. Silas Linton was attending the building of  a log house about three miles northwest of Lena doing his part in the preparation of logs to be pushed up to the men working on the corners.  These men finished cutting the notch in the ends of the log to fit the log at right angle to it, One of these men wielding a very sharp ax had not wedged his ax securely to the handle; it slipped from the handle, whirled through the air and struck Mr. Linton on the inside of one of his legs severing the femoral artery causing his death in a  few minutes.  This accident happened Nov. 6, 1834.  He was 29 years old.
