HAMMOND, MARY MARSHALLETTE (COPPOCK) - Mary Marshallette (Coppock) Hammond, 88, of McPherson, Kansas, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at Cedars Health Care Center, Kansas.  Mrs. Hammond was born in Tipp City on Dec. 1, 1920, the daughter of Harley Melvin and Olive Elsie (Pearson) Coppock.  Mary graduated from Tippecanoe High School and attended the First United Methodist Church wherever she lived.  She worked for the Church of the Brethren in Germany as a volunteer service worker following World War II.  She then became an English teacher.  Mary married Irby Illand Hammond on May 29, 1945.  She is survived by son, Phillip Hammond of Warner Robins, Ga.; granddaughter Sarah Hammond Hays; great-grandson, Jaiden Hays; brother, Stanley Coppock and his wife Velma of Springer, New Mexico; sisters, Kathryn Miriam Hoover of McPherson, Kansas and her twin sister Martha Noffsinger Roberts of Tipp City, several nieces and nephews, many students, and a host of friends.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Hammond; husband Irby Hammond; brothers, Maynard, Jay and Nevin Coppock and sister, Olive Kessler.  Private family services will be held in McPherson at a later date and burial services will be held in Talladega, Ala.  Memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 West Euclid Street, McPherson, Kansas 67460.
