McDERMOTT, STEVEN R. - Steven R. McDermott, 50, of Tipp
City, passed away on December 14, 2008, surrounded by family and friends
after a lengthy illness. Steve was born in Troy, Ohio on April 29, 1958.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, James P. McDermott. Steve is
survived by his wife Amy McDermott (Hitch), his parents, Robert and Marie
Powell and five siblings and their spouses, James Paul (Evelyn) McDermott,
Judy (Jim) Slattery, Darlene (Jim) Duggan, Linda (Rob) Brundrett and Lisa
(Steve) Bowmas and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends,
including Joel Coons. Steve was a 1976 graduate of Tippecanoe High School.
He graduated from the International School of Broadcasting, East New Mexico
State University and Wright State University. Steve had several careers,
including disc jockey, newspaper reporter and most recently in Information
Technology at WPAFB. Steve had many passions in life. He was an avid
reader and collector of music and books. His collections included
everything from Dr. Seuss and the Beatles to medieval English literature and
Native American and Celtic flute music. He also had a love for the
Southwest - - the landscape, art and culture. He lived in New Mexico for
many years and loved sharing his passions with his wife, Amy. Steve will be
greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank
Dr. Joseph Lavelle and his staff, the Greater Dayton Cancer Center and Miami
County Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please support Miami County Hospice,
the V Foundation for Cancer Research and your local blood bank. There will
be a gathering of family and friends 4:00-8:00 P.M., Friday, December 19th
at Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 W. Main St. Tipp City, Ohio 45371.
Funeral Service at 8:00 P.M. As Steve would say, "What a long strange trip
it's been."
