RECKNER, LT. COL. RET. USAF ROBERT D. - Lt. Col. Ret. USAF Robert D. Reckner, 87, of Union died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at Hospice of Dayton.  He was the son of the late Donald and Lillian (Roth) Reckner.  Bob retired in 1970 from the US Air Force after 28 years.  He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam as a command pilot, missile maintenance staff officer and commander of the 2046 Communications Group at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.  Bob was an avid Amateur Radio Operator as W81QJ.  He volunteered at camp for the disabled and taught heating and air-conditioning at Upper Valley JVS.  He was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church in West Milton and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Fairborn, the American Legion in New Carlisle and the VFW in Medway.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years Helen M. (Buerger) Reckner; daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Frank Luecke of Kentucky; Judi and Alex Kale of Georgia and Teri and David Ault of Lewis Center, Ohio; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Doris Reckner of Florida; Michael and Kathy Reckner of Dayton; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many more family members and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harry Reckner and George Hayes and grandson, Kristopher Reckner.  Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 20 at the Transfiguration Catholic Church, West Milton.  Interment with military honors at Medway Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Mill Ridge Village Activity Fund.  Kindred Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
