MOTE, GEORGE RICHARD - George Richard Mote, 79, of rural
West Milton, Union Township, Miami County, died unexpectedly at his
residence on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008. He was born on Aug. 13, 1928, in Laura,
to the late William C. (Clark) and Victoria (Nyswonger) Mote. He was the
youngest of five children. On Dec. 21, 1946, he married Joan Radabaugh at
the West Milton Congregational Christian Church, and she survives. They
enjoyed over 62 years of devoted marriage and parenthood of four children;
twelve grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; David R. and Patricia
(Wilson) of West Milton- Jaclyn (Danielle and Chase), Lucas, George R. II,
and Kathryn and fiance Richard Lawson (Coltin); Scott R. and Gretchen
Koehler of Columbus- Elizabeth; Victoria and Thomas Edmundson of Union-
Claudine Randall (Brandon), Rachel and fiance Allen Riancho, Timothy C. and
Kelly (Berry) of Englewood- Aaron, Thomala and fiance Tim Shepherd (Maleah),
Carly and fiance Ryan Simpson (twins Olivia and Lillian), Whitney, and
Alex. George also is survived by his sister, Marcia Dunahue of Arizona; his
sister-in-law, Virginia (Wendell) Mote of Florida; and seven nieces and
nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
brothers and sisters-in-law; Thomas L. and Rachel Mote, David A. (Alfred)
and June Mote, Wendell C. Mote; brother-in-law, George C. Dunahue; and his
in-laws, Tom B. and Alice (Maier) Radabaugh. He was a 1946 graduate of
Milton-Union High School and attended Miami University. He was first
employed by the former W. C. Mote and Sons, Inc. of Laura and Glen Karn,
OH. He was subsequently employed for 33 years by and retired from the
Duriron Co., Inc. (now Flowserve, Inc.), Dayton, as Production Control
Manager. The couple owned The West Milton Inn in the 1970-80s. At the time
of his death he was a four-term Union Township Trustee; was serving on the
Board of the Miami-Southwest Joint Ambulance District; was a member of the
Miami County Council and the Miami County Township Trustees and Fiscal
Officers Association; the Ohio Township Association; the Milton-Union Alumni
Hall of Fame Selection Committee; the National Rifle Association; the Sons
of the American Legion-Squadron 487, West Milton; the Milton-Union Fraternal
Order of Eagles #3621; the West Milton United Church of Christ; the American
Diabetes Association; Mended Hearts; and attended Cardiac Rehabilitation of
Samaritan North. He previously belonged to the Laura Fire Co., Inc.; was
past president of the Laura Lions Club; belonged to the West Milton Fire
Co., Inc.; was a charter member and past president of the West Milton
Jaycees. He also served on the West Milton Municipal Council, the West
Milton Charter Commission, the Miami County Planning Commission, the Miami
County Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Miami Valley Regional Planning
Commission. George was a three term member of the Miami County Board of
Elections. A member and 40 years Secretary of the Miami Republican Central
Committee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Union
Township Life Squad and the Milton-Union Alumni Association. Funeral
services were held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008 at the Hale-Sarver Funeral Home
with Pastor Robert Kurtz officiating.
